Welcome to the summer edition of “Maintenance in China”! As some of our customers’ activities slow down during the summer, we have decided to release only one issue for July and August, which will also be distributed in magazine format at the “Workplace & FM Asia Summit” held in Shanghai on September 9-10. You will find that this edition has strong FM overtones, though most of the content is applicable to other industries as well. The Reliability section focuses on the improvement potential in FM, from the owner’s perspective, followed by a Customer story (Chang Cheng Property Group, a leading residential property management company headquartered in Shenzhen). The Partners section features PCVue, a highly innovative supplier of SCADA and HMI, on the topic of energy efficiency. Tips & Tricks covers contract management, an often underutilized module of our CMMS Coswin. Finally, the Latest News presents an overview of this month’s activity at Siveco China.

This special “FM” edition is also available in printed version (contact us for a copy) or in pdf format (download here (1)).

As part of an academic partnership with the Shanghai Sino-European University of Technology (UTSEUS), Siveco is conducting maintenance audits of selected pavilions at the World Expo 2010.

As part of an academic partnership with the Shanghai Sino-European University of Technology (UTSEUS), Siveco is conducting maintenance audits of selected pavilions at the World Expo 2010. The first audit is currently ongoing at the Spanish pavilion.

The audits take into account the specificities of the Expo, namely the limited lifetime of most buildings (6 months), the long opening hours (7 days a week, 10-12 hours a day) and the stringent requirements in terms of safety. Furthermore, the quality of the pavilions reflects the image of the nations, regions, cities or institutions they represent.
Benefits of the maintenance audits include:

- A third-party assessment of the pavilions’ maintenance situation, independent from construction companies, equipment suppliers or FM service providers.
- Risk reduction, in terms of the impact of technical failures on public safety, operation, cost and image.
- Optimization of resources.

The audit also provide useful input for the second life of those pavilions set to remain, in one way or another, after the Expo period.

The fourth issue of our Maintenance in China newsletter has been launched on June 23rd. This special edition of newsletter is dedicated to the hottest topic in today’s manufacturing: Lean (and TPM). In sharp contract with the “gurus” that dominate this field, Siveco shares practical experience of obtaining sustainable results in the plant. This month’s Reliability section focuses about avoiding the pitfalls of TPM implementations in China. The customer story showcases one of our hands-on projects on a highly automated production line in the automotive industry. In Tips & Tricks, we talk about OEE measures whose implementation in CMMS often proves elusive. The Partners section deals with Siveco China’s Value Added Partner Program. The newsletter also contains a reprint of popular 2006 article “A contrarian approach to maintenance” and the usual Latest News section.

Siveco will participate in the China TPM Summit to be held on June 18, 2010 at the Renaissance Shanghai Yantze Hotel.

Siveco will participate in the China TPM Summit to be held on June 18, 2010 at the Renaissance Shanghai Yantze Hotel. In line with the company’s very hands-on approach, instead of delivering a speech at the event, Siveco engineers will be available onsite to share experience with attendees. They will demonstrate the use of Siveco mobile tools eHand and Mtv, designed to promote knowledge sharing on the shop floor (see previous press release for more information).

Bruno Lhopiteau, GM of Siveco China and a 12-years veteran of the Chinese maintenance market, highlighted the Siveco approach during a recent interview:

“The consulting business is flourishing these days: while a number of manufacturing executives who lost their job in the crisis have improvised themselves Lean Management consultants, foreign training firms have also setup offices in China. In spite of the all the recent marketing hype, experience has proven that training, organizational changes and other good advices provided by consultants often fail to produce sustainable results: this is especially true in China where maintenance technicians lack related experience and companies face high turnover rates.”

He added: “In sharp contrast with these fly-by-night consultants who are still discovering the Chinese market, Siveco has for many years been delivering tangible results. Based on a long experience of maintenance with Chinese characteristics, Siveco has developed a unique approach to address the maintenance needs of manufacturers in China, using concrete maintenance management tools such as Visual Management in combination with CMMS and mobile solutions, to support its maintenance improvement services, thus providing rapid and sustainable results.”

In addition to the event itself, follow-up sessions and free onsite maintenance audits will be offered to interested participants. Attendees who may wish to book a face-to-face discussion with our team in advance of the event, please contact info@sivecochina.com.

The June issue of our monthly email newsletter “Maintenance in China” will be released during the event at http://www.sivecochina.com/en/maintenance-in-china/. This issue will focus on maintenance improvement in manufacturing plants, with strong TPM overtones.
