Simply implementation and improve usability COSWIN toolbox

COSWIN comes with suite of built-in implementation tools, designed to enable fast implementation and support all phases of the project. These include a flexible equipment coding and structure system, data migration with Clic-Clac, Resource Editor to customize the screens by simple drag-and-drop, etc. The utilization of such tools reduces the total implementation time by several months, while providing strong methodological support to the project team.

With the Diagram Editor, drive access to data entirely by pictures, drawings or images thanks to the Diagram Editor. This is an invaluable aid for technicians to quickly get to the data they need.

With the Resource Editor, customize screens to show only the fields you need and use and integrate and manage easily e-mails for automatic tracking of job requests, status of jobs…

With COSWIN flexible equipment structures, dramatically reduce total implementation time, by allowing for errors and changes in the data coding, collection and structuring process, which is impossible in traditional EAM solutions. Part or everything in the structure can later be changed, while tracking a full history of changes.

With COSWIN Reports, click for pre-packaged reports or use the Report Editor to configure and customise them the way you want. Or, create entirely new reports to suit your requirements.

With Clic-Clac, the famed migration engine invented by Siveco over two decades ago, importing data from legacy systems or files really is only 3 clicks. Maintenance data held in spreadsheets or other databases can easily be injected to Coswin via its import facility, which can also be configured as a simple interfacing tool with regular automatic uploads.

With COSWIN Integration Tools, build complex integrations simply using standard off-the-shelf software components, thus considerably reducing development time and improve reliability. COSWIN Integration Tools can accommodate the latest technology (OPC, Web Services, xml etc.) while also allowing simpler communication based on files or ODBC links. The possibility to also integrate user interfaces (screen navigation from one system to another) is a unique COSWIN feature.

Finally, COSWIN Light is the perfect example of how the COSWIN toolbox can be applied to create a preconfigured solution that can be used out-of-the-box with quick upload of data from Excel, ideal for smaller facilities with a small number of users.

All the tools are part of COSWIN, fully integrated within the application, provided by SIVECO and not third-party packages.

Diagrams

COSWIN Diagram editor provides a powerful tool to build a graphical plant navigation structure. It provides a natural way to enter the system and find information, based on pictures and drawings. This method of navigation is simple to implement and users do not need to memorise complex codes or asset names, it is the most personal and intuitive way to access information in the system.

The Diagram Editor allows the users to create schematic drawings, representing for example a map, a floor plan or schematising a production line or process. On this diagram are placed buttons that can launch a particular action, e.g. opening another diagram or map (i.e. start with a map of all the sites, click on a site, view a photo of the site or the floor plan, select the area you are interested in, etc.); or to open an equipment card, a work order or list of assets in that location.

Resource Editor

SIVECO GROUP has created the most flexible user interface. The Resource Editor allows customers to adapt/design all the screens in COSWIN to meet the needs of each user profile. Screens can be redesigned, for different users or group of users, to show only the information and functionality needed for their specific role in the organization.

It is also possible to reorder and rename fields based upon the needs, terminology and priorities of your own organisation. Colour-codes can be added, for example to highlight high-priority work orders or urgent job requests. For example: the maintenance operator might see, in a Work Order, the descriptions and the man-hours needed. The manager will see the costs and the down time of the asset. Security is managed for each menu option, screen and even for each field, so each user/group can be allocated their own view, add, modify or delete rights for every field. Resource Editor can also be used to link COSWIN user interface to third-party applications, creating a seamless navigation from one system to another.

The Resource Editor considerably reduces implementation time, where screen customization and subsequent troubleshooting typically represents a major task. Custom-defined screens are saved in the database and will remain available when COSWIN is upgraded to a new version, thus considerably reducing upgrade time and cost.

Flexible equipment structures

COSWIN Equipment Structure is designed in a very flexible manner, allowing the system to go live with a basic structure (plant, main areas, functions and machines) and to build up more details and components as you go.

When building a CMMS structure, it is important to consider the consequences of a mistake, too detailed or too shallow structure, inconsistent coding, etc. – as the equipment register is the foundation of the entire solution. COSWIN has specific answers for all these problems and frees customers from the traditional constraints of implementing CMMS, which often result in lengthy data collection periods and costly modifications, often with loss of historical data. COSWIN Flexible Equipment Structure guarantees that “no mistake will be made” while defining the equipment, because if the structure has to be modified, the modifications can be performed very easily.

This allows for a faster start-up of the system, while the maintenance team continues to refine their knowledge of the equipment. Equipment objects can later be moved or even re-coded, without losing precious historical information attached to them. COSWIN numbers automatically the levels and counts the components at each level. The “Alter code” function allows customers to easily modify the equipment code, without losing the history, financial or other information linked to it.

COSWIN Reports and BI

In order to make the best possible use of all the data accumulated, COSWIN includes a fully-integrated report generator based on a fully integrated version of market standard Business Object. This module allows customer to modify COSWIN standard reports (over 200) and to create new reports. Report can be launched directly in COSWIN (a printing icon exists on each window).

All the database fields can be accessed via a simple graphical interface (drag and drop to select the fields required and place them in the report model). Several types of calculations are possible: arithmetical operations, subtotals, creation of a new calculated field. The data can be filtered by every field of the database or every calculated field (example: list of equipments of a defined zone) and sorted out. The report generator allows the user to automatically produce graphics, histograms, pie charts, etc. with the calculated data.

Crystal Reports has become a market standard, providing flexible options that let end users view and interact with information in familiar formats within a familiar environment.

COSWIN Integration Tools

COSWIN Integration Tools are the result of 20 years of innovation in the area of interoperability. Siveco has always been at the forefront in this domain, taking part in early research programs sponsored by the European Union, such as the PROTEUS project.

There are four basic methods for interoperability and integration with COSWIN:

1. Plug-ins

Which are extensions to programs or even new modules that can connect to other data sources (another server) and process or create new data.

These programs are integrated seamlessly into the COSWIN module and execute into the application server. For example a plug-in may open a web service connection to ERP and capture a purchase order that has been created in ERP, write the details to COSWIN and process the date as if created with COSWIN. The plug-ins may or may not need a user interaction – in this case, their existence is completely hidden to the final user.

2. Interface tables

The interface tables act as a buffer and a listener, so that if there is data outside of COSWIN that needs to be imported or exported, it will be handled by the interface table and processed according to the table business logic.

3. Clic-clac & EDI

Clic-clac is a ntive COSWIN tool that can read data from text files and is used to upload large volumes of data such as equipment registers or stock item reference data. EDI is an optional module that allows importing into COSWIN transactions that have been collected by external computer applications.

4. Web Services

COSWIN also offers Web Services that will give outside applications control over selected COSWIN data and functionality and vice-versa. Web services are more sophisticated and comprehensive in their potential integration between applications.

Clic-Clac, the data migration engine

Clic-clac allows records and data available in various file formats to be imported into COSWIN.

Some of the functionalities include:

  1. Quick initialisation of a COSWIN database from data in Excel or other format
  2. Transfer of data from third-party systems
  3. Protects earlier database and data collection investments
  4. Updating of records (new equipment specifications etc)
  5. Allows creating, completing or modifying a database very quickly without writing programmes

Clic-clac ensures consistency and quality in the data migration process, by providing a framework, a systematic process, and by controlling the consistency of the imported data and rejecting incorrect information.
