Siveco China recently organized two events showcasing Siveco customers sharing their experience of how to obtain Return on Investment (ROI) from maintenance improvement projects.
The two events in Wuhan and Shanghai
The first event took place in Wuhan on February 24, with the General Manager of automotive supplier Brose Wuhan speaking to a group of top industrial managers. At this event, Siveco China's GM also talked about two other Siveco customers in Wuhan (International Paper and Wuhan Boiler Company). For more on this event see the original
announcement. This event was co-organized with the French Chamber of Commerce, Wuhan branch.
The second event was held in Shanghai on March 18, with presentations by papermaker International Paper and chemical producer Sichuan Lutianhua. At this session, Siveco also presented experience from Brose Wuhan, lactic acid producer B&G and Saint-Gobain Pipelines. The complete agenda of the event is available
here. This event was co-organized with 1MFG, an information platform focused on Manufacturing Excellence.

Questions from an attentive audience
Both events received excellent feedback from the audience and many requests for additional information, which seems to indicate that this approach is effective.
Other experiences of customers sharing
Before these two larger events, Siveco had been running smaller scale customers sharing sessions, with typically 2-3
customers visiting another's production site.
The latest
case study features Shanghai Essilor Optical Company, highlighting their great success in improving reliability:
- Downtime decreased by 25%
- Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) increased by 30%
- Number of corrective maintenance work orders decreased by 30%
- Share of preventive maintenance reached 40%
Why this constant focus on ROI?
What you cannot measure, you cannot manage, hence Siveco's focus on measuring returns! Traditional industrial improvement activities, in the form of audits, training and activities often fail to deliver any sustainable result. This is often blamed on factors on which the company has little or no apparent control, such as change of staff, poor skills, the market, etc… Maintenance computerization projects (the so-called "EAM" projects) on the other hand, tend to be very loosely managed, without clear goals other than purely IT deliverables ("the system is working"), which is why most EAM projects totally fail.
Future events
Based on this successful experience, Siveco will continue to promote customer sharing sessions, most likely in the form of small events held either on customer location, at the Siveco office or together with local industrial associations or chambers.
