Siveco GM to speak at the HKIBIM-CIC Hong Kong BIM Conference 2015 on November 19

2015-10-27

Siveco China's General Manager Bruno Lhopiteau was invited to speak at the HKIBIM Hong Kong BIM Conference 2015 to be held on November 19 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

For this presentation on the topic of "What does BIM mean to a maintenance technician? Beyond the hype, a practical experience", Bruno Lhopiteau is teaming up with Simon Ng, Associate Director at engineering company WSP Hong Kong.

Session brief

What does BIM mean to a maintenance technician? Beyond the hype, a practical experience

Construction costs represent only about 20% of the lifetime cost of a building; operation and maintenance make up the remaining 80%. In spite of all the hype about "building lifecycle management", little has been achieved as BIM remains focused on the needs of architects and construction engineers who are unfamiliar with facilities management.

What does BIM mean to maintenance? What does it mean to a maintenance technician doing actual work in the facility? How exactly can a BIM model help our maintenance technicians in their daily work? What is the right approach to use BIM in operation: developing add-on functionality on BIM software, exporting COBie data, displaying 3D models inside a FM system, integrating with a CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System)? How about other building systems such as BMS, GIS, mobile technologies? How to distinguish between proven technology and marketing hype? What are the possible savings, where is the ROI? Are there any applicable international standards? What are the specific challenges and opportunities offered by the Chinese market in this field? Is there anything to learn from other industries such as utilities and manufacturing plants? How does this apply to ultra-high buildings? How does this apply to Intelligent Buildings and hence Smart City?

For this session, two leading industry experts team-up to raise and to answer those key questions, drawing on their multifaceted experience with construction and maintenance in Asia, with a particular focus on mainland China. The presentation will be entirely based on case studies, with practical examples and live system demonstrations to show how BIM can bring value to building owners in the operation and maintenance phase.
