Conference on “Green buildings from design to operation – focus on industrial sites” (June 22, 2011)

Sustainable Development is often all about design, choice of material, equipment and systems, construction… usually in view of obtaining a green certification for your building. The operation and maintenance aspects remain largely ignored, in spite of their significant impact on operating expenses and the lifetime of buildings. The speakers will draw on their respective experiences of the Chinese market to present what should be a continuous process from Planning, Design, Construction to Operation and Maintenance. Taking the point-of-view of facility owners or operators (industrial plants or buildings), the presentation will be illustrated by real-life case studies in China. The speakers will also touch on the various green certifications available (LEED, HQE, BREEAM, GBL) both for Design/Construction and Operation/Maintenance.

Bruno Lhopiteau (cn.linkedin.com/in/brunolhopiteau) is the General Manager of Siveco China, the country's largest maintenance consultancy (www.sivecochina.com/en). Siveco's customers in Wuhan include Brose Automotive, International Paper and Wuhan Boiler Company. Bruno has been active in the Chinese maintenance market since 1997 and took part in some of the country's largest projects, most notably the Three Gorges Hydropower plant. He is active with the various international chambers, where he initiated and still coordinates various working groups: the Construction & Maintenance workgroup at CCIFC, the Maintenance working group at EUCCC Nanjing and the Facility Management / Industrial Services roundtable at the EUCCC Shanghai. Bruno is also on the board of several high-tech and service companies operating in the Chinese maintenance and infrastructure market.

Aymeric Novel specializes in sustainable building design and more specifically in energy efficiency in buildings. He is the chief representative of the company TERAO (www.teraochinagb.cn) in China since July 2008. An accredited professional LEED-AP for Building Design and Construction, he is also the coordinator of the Sustainable Development working group at the French Chamber of Commerce in Beijing. TERAO is a consulting and engineering firm specialized in green building certification and design, new and existing, created in 1993, which started to provide consulting in China since 1999. Aymeric has worked closely with AFD on the large scale public building energy retrofit pilot project in Wuhan as well as on similar programs in Thailand and South Africa, the thermal retrofit of the Sino-French training centre for energy efficiency professionals in Beijing, a new green certified large scale sport centre in Hangzhou, the implementation of credit lines of energy efficiency implementation in Vietnam and Tunisia and LEED certification projects in France and China.
